New House near Marlborough

We were appointed to convert this former school into a family home. The building had remained empty since it closed as a school in July 2011. Fowler Architecture & Planning designed the new building to work around the oldest part of the school which meant the Victorian structure remains part of the new home.

The owners purchased the school with Planning Permission and decided they wanted to do their part for the environment so the new dwelling is fully equipped with; MVHR, solar panels, PV panels and air source heat pump. The desire would have been to achieve Passive House standards but unfortunately the Planning requirement for traditional sliding sash windows was always going to make this impossible to achieve. We were set the task to make the building as airtight as we possibly could with the use of; Pro Clima Intello +, Tescon Vana sealing tape, Vitaseal and extremely high levels of insulation. The Building Regulation Standard Air Test requirement is to achieve a result less than 10.00m3/(h.m2) @ 50 Pa. We achieved a reading of 3.12 which was classed as ‘Excellent’
